Back pain relief through losing weight...
Sampath has been working in the IT industry since 2010. Irregular work timings, his love for sweets and junk food, had all become part of his daily routine. A couple of years into the industry, he saw himself expand in inches and an increase in weight that he hadn’t seen earlier. He says, “Every time, I see a mail titled, Sweets at my desk, I used to rush and have them in a hurry”. In 2016 he had severe back ache and on consultation, doctors suggested doing a few exercises for the back. He was recommended to reduce weight - which "may" alleviate his pain. He was also suggested to undergo a surgery for his back, which he clearly didn't want to do. Driven by a goal to avoid a surgery, he started working out. Like most people, after a couple of weeks, when he started feeling better, he began to ignore his workout. This continued for a couple of years and in 2019, when he did his Annual health check-up, his weight was 95Kgs and he had Grade-1 fatty liver, and his back pain was at its worst. Playing with his 3 year old daughter, had become increasingly difficult. “That was when I have decided to reduce my weight and I started working out seriously. But workouts alone, didn’t give me the results that I was looking for, as I could reduce only 4kgs in 6 months.” he says. “During that time, I got to know about Wellness Quotient community through a friend”. His coach helped him understand that the foundation of good health is not just exercising but also includes proper nutrition, good lifestyle habits and a positive attitude. They designed a healthy weight- loss program which included all these parameters. “With the help of my coach and the community, I lost close to 20kgs in 6 months.” he adds. “I enjoy my workouts now and live pain-free. My liver function test results are normal now. I have become more energetic and productive. During this journey I have developed good eating habits. Thanks to Wellness Quotient community - not just for the weight that I have lost, but for gifting me my life, back.
